Halal Sausages in the Philippines!

Swift launched it's all-halal sausage line. Now, all of Swift's best-selling "hotdog" variants are halal-friendly! (bottomline: no haram ingredients).

I'm actually relieved to (be part) and know about this as this gives our Muslim brother and sisters a chance to enjoy halal-products in the Philippines. It also gives our Filipino communities in the Middle East a chance to enjoy their favorite red hotdogs as these are actually ALLOWED to enter strict halal markets.

My only concern know is for our retail outlets to develop (and follow/adhere) to strict halal-handling of products.

Now, I'm bracing myself to meet them targets..

I feel blessed to have great friends and family who have never failed to make me feel loved. Though I may have had frustrations, feeling of helplessness and all other things that seem to make warm fuzzy feelings go away, words can never express the gratitude I have for all of you have pushed me to go on and helped me understand my mission in life...

Nawala na naman ako.. (as usual) sa sirkulasyon..

Well, ano na bang nangyayari sa akin? I've watched Twilight THREE TIMES! (kasi sumama ako sa officemates ko, kay Medy, tapos kay Scott na nagcocomment at sumasangayon ata sa asawa ni Dynobot na mas maganda pa ata ang Sweet Valley High).
Comment ko sa Twilight: masyadong siniksik, though kinilig pa rin ako. sana nga lang, mas maganda pa yung bahay ng Cullens - the house they used sa movie lacked the "visual" enticement.. hahaha..nawala pa yung kilig scene nila sa restaurant sa port angeles, plus yung long talk sa car.. oh well.. you can only do so much with 120 minutes!

Had a good hosting job sa Manila Ocean Park (courtesy of Oca). I was blessed to have worked PJ (grabe, magaling siya maghost.. game na game pa siya sa kung ano mang kailangang gawin - walang ka-ere ere, di tulad ng ibang tao diyan..haha). Amazing rin ang kanyang story as to how he got into the whole dancing career - if he was able to learn ballet at age 21, it means na basta gusto..aba'y, maraming paraan!

Christmas Shopping Update: I'm only 50% done with my list.. No time, darn. Baka naman pwede ko taguan si Mam Imee?

I know I've dropped out of the '"social radar" for quite some time. My last "legit" night out was with PCE with their Halloween Videoke Party which turned out to be a singing showdown between Ted and Frank. (haha). Aside from that - um, I basically have no other life than THE OFFICE.

I've been slaving away from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm for the last two weeks (and perhaps will continue to do in the weeks to come). Maybe I'm subconsciously preparing my body to adjust to the 4 hour time difference (eg. having dinner at 8pm Dubai Time or 12mn Manila Time - well, you get what I mean, i'm "so tamad" to elaborate.. haha)

I've been booking appointments left and right to make sure that my company's middle east trip does not go to waste. I've worked my ass of last Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 - I'm complaining coz I'm physically tired - but come to think of it, I'm actually enjoying the whole "pre-event" thing.

Well, Scott's complaining (sorta) coz he never gets to rub my tummy anymore (and tease me about it).. hahaha... I'm always home late.. But I actually like the late hours din ata kasi no traffic and the office has this "quiet mode".. I've been using my "research" instincts lately - going through the whole retail jungle in the Mid East, trying to find the right guy or girl to book an appointment with my boss.. I've probably heard the word "kabayan" a hundred times when I get to speak with a Filipino who works for an Indian or Arab national. It's actually pretty amusing - not funny ah.. how life seems to be a little bit easier when you hear a familiar Filipino line every now and then when you call overseas.

Anyway, I'll be gone starting this Saturday and will be back Monday.. So if ever you need me, call me via mobile as I probably won't bring my laptop with me in Dubai...

Some random musings that made me smile last night (during RFM's 50th Anniversary)..

Kahit nakakalungkot na pag may mga event eh I never felt na bisita ako (kahit na the event was for RFM employees), na I had a very ungrateful boss who never noticed how much I was trying to be on top of things to make sure na wala siyang magiging problema (kahit tubig, pagkain o upuan pa yan at the least), na i never got to eat anything last night...

People who sincerely appreciate what you've done for them can still make you feel human...

Senator Juan Flavier is one of my idols. Perhaps, he is the only Filipino Senator and Health Secretary whose programs I would never forget. He was rather old too.. but very wise in years. Like Sir Pagsi, Sen. Flavier was so humble. He came alone - no EAs, he didn't bring his wife as no one would be left in the house even if I insisted on it earlier.

He was tired, I could see it in his face as well after 3 hours of sitting alone in the front row. After the awarding, I went out of my way to make sure that someone would carry all of his stuff outside the door. His trophy was quite heavy, and there was no way he could bring home all the other stuff on his own to the door. He was very nice too - thanking me for making sure that I made his night a little more easier.

I never thought I'd have the chance to meet Sen. Santanina Rasul. As a child, I often dreamt of being able to vote for her in the 1992 elections (i was only 8 at that time). I met her, in all her radiant beauty - wearing a beautiful pink sequined sablay.

She came with her family and they were very nice as well. I only had one concern as I was looking for Halal food for them to eat as the waiters were unfortunately unaware of what Halal food was. (oh boy..)

When I first read about how Ateneo students loved Onofre Pagsanghan, I concocted this grandfatherly image of a professor who loved his students. Well, the image came close to the real thing..

I personally met Dr. Pagsanghan last night at the 'red carpet". The old man was very charming and very kind. He was accompanied by his very sweet wife as well. The whole program took about 3 hours and I saw how hungry they got. For a man of 82, he was up and about, in high spirits with a warm smile that made anyone gravitate towards him.

He was hungry. It was adorable - really. My officemates and I got him and his family food. It was nice to see him eat happily. But I never knew that I was I who was in for a surprise. He and his wife whispered to me.. "Please tell everyone, thank you, thank you for seeing to the needs of my family, for being very kind to us. You made me feel that I was the most important awardee tonight. Please extend my gratitude to everyone.. "

Scott officially turned 27 today.

I got him really cool driving shoes from Puma - but I forgot to ask for coins from him! He might just run away or something (as the old "pamahiin" goes..)

Anyway, it has been a really crazy, crazy week for him.. finishing his thesis, fulfilling other requirements etc, etc. Hope life goes back to its normal simplicity soon.

Dont' assume that I'm okay....

Siguro isa ito sa pinaka-malaking pagkakamali na nagawa sa akin.. "Not because it's okay with you, okay na rin sa akin.." Nawa'y pakinggan niyo naman kung ano ang gusto ko... I could fend for myself.. be independent - but it does not mean that I do not need anybody in my life.. Just because I do not complain - don't assume that I'll be okay with whatever is left for me..... That it's okay for me not to have dessert coz there wasn't just enough for everybody..

bottomline: I have issues, i get hurt and I'm just too angry sometimes.. (di obvious noh?)

Eraserheads Concert

Went to watch the Eraserheads Reunion Concert last Aug. 30 (which also happened to be my birthday).

I was seriously excited to see them all play together (in one stage) after all these years..
When they started the 20-minute countdown, Scott and I were shouting with the crowd. We even made a bet that once the timer hits 2 minutes, people will shout even more.. (hahaha). Once they started playing Alapaap, Scott and I were "starstruck" kumbaga..

Over-all (after Ely's hospital incident and all), it was an okay concert.
It was amazing to see them all performing live.. Man, these people literally shaped OPM music history! Haha..maaga pa.. pero living legends na sila.. hahaha...

Anway, I'm not sure if Scott and I were really in a bad place.. Kasi I honestly saw them perform better.. I mean, they sounded good - but something was missing. I guess it was the chemistry -given the rift that remains unsettled I guess. I'll give them a 10 for everything.. except siguro for "stage performance:' (yah, di naman to singing contest), pero I was waiting for them to connect more with their fans.. (I'm a performer myself and boy, I should know..)

Scott and I weren't sure if these guys were really enjoying themselves up there.. My concept kasi of a really good performance (aside from getting the whole technical aspect right) is that it has to be 1) enjoyed by the audience and 2) enjoyed by the performers themselves. Given that I was unfortunate to secure a VIP or SVIP pass (for reasons I'm at a lost with...), I was watching from the patron section. This unfortunately did not help me assess the band's actual "enjoyment" of the moment... (ahahaha)

Anyway, I was disappointed that they had to cut short their gig. Sayang lang, didn't get to see them play sa Saguijo. (Nagutom na kasi ako..) Perhaps, Ely could have already assessed in the first place his capacity to play a full-set. Wala namang pipilit sa kanya kung di pa niya talaga kaya. Madali naman mag-resched. Anyway, the set-back actually "forces" ? them to play again.. (wohoo!)

I wish Ely a speedy recovery...

"Next time, sana mag-spiel pa sila on stage.. haha"

Nandito ako (uli) ngayon sa terminal 2 ng airport. I'm going to Bangkok to meet some buyers with Ma'm Imee. Short notice nga lang - nung last Tuesday ko lang nalaman na sasama ako. Dahil dun, super ngarag ang aking pagempake ng gamit, pag-aral ng mga costings at pricelist, at pagreresearch ng mga buyers.

First time ko sumakay ng eroplano - - mag-isa.

Dalawang oras pa bago mag-board ang flight ko. Kinakabahan ako kasi alam ko kailangan ko patunayan sa boss ko na kaya ko na mag-exports full time. Make or break chance ko ito kumbaga. Apat na araw.. apat na araw lang naman ehl.

Hay Lord.. Please send me the Holy Spirit..

Vitwater - KiwiStrawberry

so it DOES remind me of Gatorade and vitamin water brands that are amazingly picking up in terms of sales in the US..

RFM's newest baby vitwater is nutrient enhance flavored water.. My fave for the moment is kiwi-strawberry which has L-Carnitine in it. For less than Php 20.00 (locally) - well it is better than Gatorade, a cheaper alternative.. (or let's replace Gatorade altogether..haha). Don't drown yourself with it though.. no sugar-free variants yet..

my koolasa "ate" Lora Gahol finally got married to Larry Fonacier.. (ang tagal ko hinintay na magpakasal na sila...)..

so anong koneksiyon ng blog post title ko sa wedding ni Ate Lora? wala naman.. it just made me wonder kung ano na nangyari sa cast nung play na part kami nung 1993 (haha..yung blog title yung title ng play..).. hmm.. i know Colleen (Geronimo )is now in Canada.. Angela Moran's in med school.. I haven't seen Caleen din.. hmm...
Si Fr. James Reuter (the writer and director) na lang ang alam ko kung nasan.. haha...

Lea.. How I was the first person to introduce her to tons of Tokyo-tokyo meals.. (haha). How we both would eat double rice portions.. How she "forced" me to go into streetdance class coz I didn't know what to take for PE! And all the "vakler" days.. haha

Sarah.. How she likes powdered cheese sa corn.. My carpools with her and her dad.. How hard Samaskom was.. How OC she could get.. and yes, that LAUGH!

Bajoy.. How she didn't seem to care about boys.. Or how she pretended not to.. How we like monay.. How she taught me the right way to cook pansit canton.. How I envied her taekwondo adidas rubber shoes and bought myself a pair.. I miss you, nasan ka na ba?

Ba.. How we both would get giddy over Robinson's MIDNIGHT SALE.. Practically agree not to buy the same stuff from Kamiseta and Bayo.. Listen to my endless "daydreaming" over one guy.. Eating.. eating.. and eating.. Fighting over the largest piece of pizza

Jam 88.3 Breakfast Break

I was feeling lucky...

I decided to join Jam 88.3's Breakfast Break promo. Everyweek, the Jam jocks serve free breakfast to the lucky office of the week.

Joining was fairly easy.. you just fax a form and answer why the office listens to Jam..

Kala ko di na ako mananalo.. kasi 2 months have passed na.. Suprisingly, Randy (the station's events manager) called me and told me I won! Sabi ko pa nga.. "Di nga, talaga po?"

Nway, they brought me and my officemates McDo breakfast kaninang umaga! I got a special shirt nga from Mossimo.. coolness..

Nakakatuwa sila - kasi na enjoy nila na madami kaming pauwi sa kanila na RFM products..

I first saw her on ABS-CBN's Little Big Star Competition. Upon hearing her sing, I knew she was a winner. She has it all. Personality, voice quality - and she's always in tune! I get goosebumps everytime.

I remember seeing Sarah Geronimo for the first time - right then and there I knew she was going to be a big hit.

Ten Songs Production, a record company and Extensive Talent Management, based in Stockholm, Sweden, learned about Charice when they saw her Little Big Star video uploaded in YouTube and immediately contacted Charice's manager for a recording stint.

Charice has already recorded in Stockholm, Sweden and her six songs demo aims to cater to various genres t the US and UK markets. Among the songs recorded were her own versions of "I Will Always Love You" (Whitney Houston original), "Stay" (Shakespeare Sisters original), "All The Money In the World" (an original song sourced by Ten Songs for Charice), and "Running Up That Hill" (Kate Bush original). I am Martin D. Bautista
and I am running for the Philippine Senate. I graduated with an
undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of the Philippines
- Diliman in 1984 and went on to the UP College of Medicine , finishing
in 1989. I completed my Internship, Residency in Internal Medicine,
Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the State University of New York, in Brooklyn
from 1990-1996. I certified in the American Board of Internal Medicine
in 1994. From 1996 to 2006, my wife (who is a pulmonologist) and I
practiced in rural Oklahoma. We have 4 daughters.

The odds are indeed long and the political situation in our country appears to be irredeemably corrupted.

For
too long however, well-meaning citizens who lead comfortable, secure
and private lives have been scared off by the immorality, filth and
danger of a system that has always zealously protected the interests of
our traditional politicians, meaning those dynasties that treat
politics as a family livelihood project and see politics as a way to
make a comfortable living. This would be fine if we lived in say, the
US, where corruption likewise exists but where there is general access
to toilets and potable water (28% of Filipinos do not); there is access
to anti-hypertensives and diabetes medicines; access to food (yes many,
many Filipinos still go hungry involuntarily) ...you are well aware of
the terrible realities but when confronted with the idea that people
continue to die every single day because of this poisoned political
situation you will be moved to do something.

For
too long, we have defaulted on our political responsibilities to family
dynasties. We have allowed them to speak for us and we have allowed
them to shape public policies that have resulted in the conditions we
now face today. Small wonder then if you realize that the family agenda
takes precedence over the common good, but this is part of human
nature. I do not claim to be more moral than anybody nor do I claim to
be without sin, all that I am claiming is that I am prepared to offer
whatever talents I may have in order to promote the common good.

Leadership is mostly about problem solving. An ordinary citizen in the Philippines does not have access to pertinent information and data that are necessary to arrive at enlightened decisions.
This is one reason why I am running for the Senate.

Leadership
is about inspiring other people to unite towards common goals. Not
having come from a prominent and wealthy family, I had to leave our
country in order to become financially independent. During the course
of 17 years in the US , I learned many lessons, took care of my family
and I prepared for my return. I am convinced that the best education
will not be found in Harvard but rather in having to live alone in a
foreign land and being left to sink or swim on your own wits. I want
our countrymen to appreciate and to gain inspiration from the countless
sacrifices that millions of law-abiding, diligent, honest, hard working
and patriotic Filipinos all over the world do every single day to keep
our country afloat (2007 budget: PhP 1.1 trillion; 2006 Remittances
through banks PhP 650 billion).

I know that each one of us
strives to help our country and we all continually look for other ways
with which to help out. I just feel that politics, notwithstanding all
the lethal corruption, remains the most effective path to promote the
common good.

If
you look at the choices for the May elections, you will not see any
difference between those who present themselves as "administration" or
"opposition" . Same names, same historical self-serving agendas Where
have all these names and experiences brought us? We were the second
best in Asia 50 years ago, now we are the second to the last.

I joined Ang Kapatiran because I agree with its priorities:
ü moral principles over political expediency
ü preferential option for the poor and vulnerable
ü common good over the demands of special interests
ü culture of life and peace over death and violence

Permanent
reform will require a profound moral change in our national character.
I invite all of you to join me. I am personally willing to bet
everything
material that I possess that if we ordinary
citizens were to become aware that the power to change our country lies in each of us, then we can all work
together in redeeming our Philippines
. All the political dynasties with their innumerable guns, armies of
goons, unlimited gold, COMELEC will not stop an idea whose time has
come.

So I am literally moving up to the 7th floor.

Last Saturday, Scott and I "finally" (using finally as we have not seen each other for quite some time) went out for a date. The original plan was for us to watch "History Boys" at Glorietta - but I had to man our Go Negosyo booth in Megamall. NO more History Boys - The Holiday na lang...

After manning the booth, I decided to drop by Krispy Kreme! My, my - ang sarap talaga! :)
Medyo bad trip nga lang si Scott kasi naghihintay na pala siya sa tapat ng St. Francis, tapos pina-alis pa siya ng guard. Pero no biggie.

Hay...

Arrived at Eastwood around 8ish. Had dinner at Teriyaki Boy. Scott wanted to eat in the smoking-areas because he wanted to hear the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) play.

As we were eating, I told him that I knew someone from the MPO. I knew Mr. Benj Bautista - 1st violin. I wanted to approach him, but I don't think he would have remembered. I texted his daughters (who were friends) that I'm watching their dad play. They told me that I should go up to him and re-introduce myself. Well, was too hungry to do anything.

Anyway, we listened to a 30 minute set. They played standards, classics and some new pop songs. After that, they invited people to come sing with them. There was this particular lady in pink who sang a couple of bossa songs, and she was sooo good! (I'm sorry Sitti, but she was better at Mas Que Nada.. ) After she sang, they gave away Novelino wines!

I wanted one.

So what would Kaybee do?

Haha!

I adorably begged Scott to let me go sing. And so I did.

Pakapalan na lang siguro ng mukha. Pero di ako matatahimik kung di ako makakakanta kasama ang MPO! (hello, rare chance to get to sing with seasoned professionals!)

So I bravely raised my hand and volunteered myself. (Haha... Di ako si Kaybee kung di malakas ang loob ko.)

I asked if I could sing Falling (pop. by Teri De Sario) since I earlier heard that they play this.
Amazingly, the crowd loved me even though I sorta mumbled a couple of lines of the song since I sorta forgort the lyrics. After that, they asked that I sing another song, so I decided to sing On the Wings of Love (not my top choice, but that was the piece available).

Crazy right? All for a bottle of wine?

I never would have imagined that I did have a number one fan.. (so okay, Dianne and Jill have been telling me that they head my fan club..pero what the heck, guys, I'm your bestfriend!)
I really haven't been singing lately - as I've resigned myself temporarily to focus on my corporate career.

As much as my relationship with music is a love and hate one (pretty much the same for all relationships i hold important), I have to say, I almost came to the point of acceptance that I might not be different than other singers out there...

Much to my surprise, after checking my friendster account, I got one letter I don't think I'll ever forget.

Dalawang linggo na rin akong kumain ng pizza at pasta sa Amici di Don Bosco. Sa mga di pa nakakaalam ang cafeteria style na kainang ito ay matatagpuan sa campus ng Don Bosco Makati.

Ang sarap ng mga pagkain dito - nakaka-adik kumbaga. Pero may kaunting kamahalaan.. (Php 150.00 ang isang order ng masarap na pasta na karaniwan ay Php 250.00 sa iba - tinutukoy ko ang cafe bola or kung ano pa mang kainan diyan...) Sulit ang thin crust pizza sa Php 240.00. Masarap rin ang gelato - Php 35.00 ang isang scoop.

At dahil dito.. kain na lang ako ng kain..

Sabi ko nga kay Scott "magpapayat" na kami. Ang sabi ba naman sa akin ay "Ano yun?"

Mendiola - in its Silence

I went to the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) office last October 31. It was suppose to be a day off - but I had to drop off important documents to help in the release of funds I needed for my project (referring to GEM). I got off at the LRT 2 Legarda station and started making my way to Mendiola. And lo, to my surprise - it was deserted. It must've slipped my mind that classes for don't resume till the 2nd week of November.

Mendiola didn't look like one big "parking lot" to me anymore. (anybody from CEU or San Beda can attest to that). The street was quiet, the sidewalks were clean. No people trying to ram you over with their cars. I actually enjoyed my walk going to Arlegui Street. If Mendiola could just be like that - "stress-free."(as I call it)

I didn't notice that I just took a 1-km walk to and fro Legarda Station.....

Ilang araw ko na rin sigurong sinasabi ang mga katagang ito. Pagod na ako. Puno na ako. Siguro dahil nakikita ko na pinipilit ninyo na gawin ko ang mga bagay na di ko na ikakasaya.. mga bagay na sobra na sa dapat kong gawin.. mga bagay na hindi naman ako dapat ang gumagawa.. di ibig sabihin na nagkusa ako minsan ay ako na "panghabang buhay" ang gagawa nun.. Kailan mo kaya makikita na di dahil sa ginawa ko na minsan ay masaya akong gawin pa ulit yun...
